BIOMIN Conducts “Mycotoxin Awareness Forum” at Karnal and Pune

As part of the BIOMIN Global Mycotoxin Risk Management Program, Biomin India hosted a series of specialist forums on Mycotoxin Awareness, highlighting the challenges facing the Indian livestock industry. 

6 May 2011 – The Forums shared the knowledge of mycotoxin contamination, and reviewed the global Mycotoxin survey from 2010. They further facilitated discussions on mycotoxin risk management strategies and lively interactions amongst leading producers and nutritionists from the Indian livestock industry.

In response to feedback and keen interest arising from the Biomin presentation at the international Mycotoxins 2011 Conference in Bangkok, March 2011, Biomin now presented the paper to local audiences in India through a series of evening “Mycotoxin Awareness Forums”. The Forums took place at Hotel Le Meridien, Pune on 5th April and at Hotel Noor Mahal Karnal (Haryana) on 7th April. They covered key topics of “Mycotoxin Awareness Program" and “Stress Management through Nutrition".

The Forums kicked off in Pune and Karnal at 7pm with a welcome speech by Dr. Ravindran KN, Chief Operating Officer of Biomin India. Then Mr. Edward Manchester, Regional Director of Biomin Asia, presented on the Mycotoxin Awareness Program. During the one and a half hour programme, he gave an introduction to the concerns of mycotoxin contamination then reviewed the results from the intensive Biomin global mycotoxin survey of 2010. This survey analysed close to 3500 samples, of which a significant number came from our customers in India. Mr Manchester addressed the real concerns of mycotoxin challenge to the Indian livestock industry and detailed on the strategies for managing mycotoxin risk.

Dr. R.Gunasaekar, the renowned Nutritionist and Consultant also spoke on the very important issue of "Stress management through Nutrition", raising some extremely interesting aspects for practical applications.

Bringing the Forums to a close, Dr.Amitash Sharma, Technical Sales Manager for Biomin India, gave the vote of thanks to all the guests and invited them to the cocktail dinner. The Forums were well appreciated by all Key clients who are mainly major breeders, feed millers and consultants from the surrounding areas.
